CCA Officials

Join our CCA Officials team!

Swim Officials are an essential part of our team! For many meets throughout the year, CCA is required to provide officials in order to meet Wyoming Swimming sanction requirements or risk paying financial penalties. If we do not have officials, our swimmers pay the price!

There is no experience or previous knowledge required in order to be an official! All training and certification is provided through CCA and USA Swimming. We are only looking for swim parents who are committed to the success of their swimmers and our amazing team!

How to become an official:

  1. Contact Admin (admin@ccaswim.com)to communicate your desire to begin officials training. You will be sent directions to set up a USA Swimming Officials membership and begin online training. Our officials chair will also be notified about your intention to join.
  2. Complete Online Trainings - You will be required to complete a background check and online trainings including Athlete Protection, Concussion Protocol, and Foundations of Officiating. You will then decide to pursue on-deck or administration officiating, and continue with the appropriate additional trainings.
  3. Shadow - Once all training through either Administration or Stroke & Turn online are completed, shadowing sessions are required to gain certification. Paperwork is required to track shadowing. Future officials are encouraged to shadow during CCA and other area team meets. Contact a Meet Referee (listed on meet sanction documents) to request permission to shadow.
  4. Start Officiating! - Once certification is completed, and communication with both CCA Officials Chair and Wyoming Swimming Officials Chair has been completed, you are ready to hit the deck and join the team! Our CCA Meet Referee will be sure to contact you about your ability to officiate during upcoming CCA meets. You may also be asked to consider officiating during away meets as well, if CCA is required to provide officials.

Questions or concerns? Unsure if officiating is right for you? Talk with us! We are happy to answer any questions you have!

Officials FAQs

The initial trainings take several hours to complete, but can be done at your own pace. Passing grade are required to progress, and so be sure to take your time!

Annual USA Swimming Official Memberships have an annual registration fee of ~$80 and background check of ~$40. After these are in place, all additional required online trainings are free of charge. CCA is committed to making officiating as easy as possible, and is happy to help pay for Officials memberships and background checks, as needed. Unfortunately, CCA is unable to pay for travel costs to meets.

Aside from snacks during many of the meets :)... CCA officials are provided a meet credit based on the number of sessions worked. View officials reimbursement policy in Links & Resources for more information.

Absolutely! Within our team, CCA officials are encouraged to continue training and move into additional officiating roles beyond the initial Stroke & Turn or Administrative Official roles. This helps our team have plenty of options to fill the necessary positions during meets. Additionally, there are advancement opportunities within Wyoming Swimming Officials as well as up into national meets!

YES! We are excited for everyone to join the team! Contact admin (admin@ccaswim.com) to begin the USAS transfer.

All meet officiating questions are answered by the specific meet referee. Please contact the meet ref directly, via the information provided on the meet sanction document.
